An MCNE-certified agent has studied negotiation the way other professionals study their craft: through an advanced curriculum covering strategy, psychology, communication, and contract structure from both the buyer's side and the seller's side.
The Master Certified Negotiation Expert program builds on the entry-level Certified Negotiation Expert course with advanced training for listing agents, advanced training for buyer's agents, and coursework in email negotiations and cultural factors in real estate negotiations. It is roughly six days of study across six courses, and it is the kind of training most agents never pursue.
What the certification means
MCNE is awarded by the Real Estate Negotiation Institute after an agent completes its full course sequence. Where a license teaches the rules of the transaction, negotiation training teaches how the terms actually get decided: what motivates the other side, how offers and counteroffers should be structured, and how to protect your client's position without burning the deal down.
Why it matters to you
Negotiation is where a real estate transaction's value is won or lost. For sellers, it is the difference between accepting the first offer and working the price, terms, and concessions to a number that protects the equity you built. For buyers, it is knowing when to hold firm, when to compromise, and how to negotiate repairs after the inspection instead of leaving money on the table.
Teri's approach to negotiation is steady and honest, never theatrical. She prepares the evidence, listens to the other side, and protects your interests with calm, firm advocacy. Her MCNE training gives her the technique; her character sets how she uses it.
Teri Shepherd holds the MCNE certification. She is a Broker Associate at Keller Williams Premier Realty with more than 10 years of residential and commercial experience serving Peoria and Central Illinois, licensed in Illinois under number 475.135244. When she negotiates for you, the training is on your side.
Buying or selling? Negotiation starts before the offer.
