A GRI REALTOR® has gone well past the minimum: the letters stand for Graduate, REALTOR® Institute, and earning them takes roughly 60 or more hours of NAR-accredited classroom study on top of a real estate license.
Licensing teaches the fundamentals. The GRI curriculum builds on that foundation with in-depth work in legal and regulatory issues, finance and contracts, technology, professional standards, and the sales process, plus market knowledge and state-specific material. It is one of the most respected education credentials a REALTOR® can hold, because it asks an agent to master the parts of the business clients rarely see: the paperwork, the law, and the standards that keep a transaction honest.
What the designation means
GRI is awarded by the National Association of REALTORS® and delivered through state associations whose curriculum meets NAR-accredited standards. Candidates must be members in good standing, complete the required coursework, and pass the courses within the program's timeline. The result is an agent with a broader, deeper command of the rules and mechanics behind every real estate decision.
Why it matters to you
